An 8-year-old boy is dead after being hit by a garbage truck in Kansas City, MO.
It happened around 3:25 p.m. in the 5400 block of E 100th Street.
Witnesses says the child and a friend were pulling or playing with a wagon when they were hit. One was able to roll out of the way and yelled at the driver to stop. The second child was trapped under the back tires. They say the driver had to back the truck up to free the boy.
Police confirm it wasn't until the boy started yelling that the truck driver realized anything had happened.
Someone performed CPR and he was taken to the hospital but there was nothing they could do.
It's devastating for the neighborhood.
"As a parent and as a nurse, it's like you gotta hold your composure and try to be strong for the family," said Mysetter Reynolds, who lives nearby. "I'm trying not to cry and I've got my two (children) standing right here. That could have been anybody's kid, it could have been mine, so it's like you have to be strong for the family at a time of need."
Kansas City Police investigators are working to determine what happened.
