On Sunday, new rules for winter tires for heavy vehicles come into force. The Norwegian Truck Owners’ Association (NLF) believes the rules are an important measure for better traffic safety.
Specifically, the new rules mean that the tires on the steering front axle and drive wheels on heavy vehicles must now be marked with the alpine symbol (3PMSF), the Norwegian Public Roads Administration wrote on its website.
Scooters and trailers will still have a minimum requirement for M + S marking (mud and snow).
Requirements for tread depth are the same, a minimum of 5 millimeters on all wheels.
The rule change was announced last autumn.
“Everything that can help make it safer to drive on our winter roads is a good thing, even if some have to bear an extra cost,” CEO of the Norwegian Truck Owners Association (NLF) Geir A. Mo pointed out.
