Crime and fire report: North Dakota man injured in ATV crash near Ponsford; vehicle stolen in Frazee involved in police chase, ends up in Dickinson, N.D. impound

On Saturday, May 15, at 4:25 p.m., near Little Basswood Lake, outside of Ponsford, Benjamin Herrly, a 46-year-old from Frontier, N.D., hit a tree while driving an all-terrain vehicle. Herrly suffered serious, but, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Sanford Health in Fargo for further treatment. Also, on Thursday, May 13, at 2:10 p.m., near Ketters Meats in downtown Frazee, a vehicle was stolen. The same vehicle was involved in a high speed pursuit with law enforcement in North Dakota. The owner was informed his vehicle was recovered and is currently at the police impound in Dickinson, N.D.

2:10 p.m., near Ketters Meats, Frazee, vehicle stolen. Owner was informed the vehicle was used in a high speed chase with law enforcement in Dickinson, N.D. Vehicle is currently in the Dickinson Police Department impound lot.

2:28 p.m., near mile marker 273 on Highway 59, Callaway, grass fire by the railroad tracks.

5:47 p.m., 25000 block Brandy Lake Boulevard, Detroit Lakes, reckless all-terrain vehicle operation on a township road.

5:59 p.m., 14000 block County Road 19, Detroit Lakes, fire inside a log by Dunton Locks.

6:46 p.m., 40000 block Ladoux Road, Ponsford, stolen battery from a camper.

7:38 p.m., at Cenex at 129 2nd Street, Audubon, shoplifter.

11:26 p.m., near East Elbow Lake Road, Waubun, small grass fire in a swampy area.

Friday, May 14

1:40 a.m., 300 block West Main Avenue, Frazee, possible sexual conduct.

9:56 a.m., at CVS Pharmacy at 329 East Frazee Street, Detroit Lakes, shoplifter.

10:28 a.m., at Walmart at 1583 Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, shoplifter.

11:07 a.m., 17000 block 380th Street, Ogema, scam involving a jailed family member. Caller sent $4,000 to the scammer.

1:21 p.m., 300 block Parkview Street, Detroit Lakes, scratched vehicle door.

3:37 p.m., at Walmart at 1583 Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, shoplifter.

4:26 p.m., 500 block West Ash Avenue, Frazee, generator, propane tank and gas tank stolen.

4:41 p.m., 200 block Sunnyside Street, Ogema, juveniles smoking marijuana.

8:55 p.m., near 350th Street and 220th Avenue, Becker County, small grass fire.

Saturday, May 15

6:43 a.m., 1200 block 8th Street, Detroit Lakes, bike stolen from the bed of a pickup truck.

10:23 a.m., 14000 block County Road 11, Audubon, Publisher’s Clearing House scam.

1:43 p.m., 100 block Richwood Drive, Detroit Lakes, garage door damaged from a backing vehicle.

2:22 p.m., 24000 block Vacation Lane, Rochert, noise complaint concerning a boater.

Sunday, May 16

12:48 a.m., 1400 block Apex Court, Detroit Lakes, smell of marijuana coming from a neighbor’s apartment.

12:51 a.m., 100 block Dakota Street, Callaway, a man entering a residence was assaulted from behind.

12:56 p.m., at Walmart at 1583 Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, shoplifter.

1:01 p.m., 1200 block Summit Avenue, Detroit Lakes, flag removed from flagpole and left at scene.

5:40 p.m., 34000 block County Road 34, Ogema, gas can stolen.

5:50 p.m., on Lake Detroit, Detroit Lakes, boater cited for expired registration.

9:25 p.m., 25000 block Bear Clan Drive, Ogema, grass fire.

11:48 p.m., 200 block Union Street, Detroit Lakes, backyard fire in uncontained space. Fire violated burn restriction warnings.

11:52 p.m., near mile marker 54 on Highway 10, Becker County, vehicle fire. A Minnesota State Trooper extinguished the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

Monday, May 17

9:37 a.m., at Walmart at 1583 Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, shoplifter.

10:00 a.m., at Walmart at 1583 Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, shoplifter.

10:51 a.m., 1100 block Washington Avenue, Detroit Lakes, check forgery.

11:09 a.m., 100 block Richwood Road, Detroit Lakes, illegal trash dumping.

12:27 p.m., 24000 block 590th Avenue, Park Rapids, computer stolen while moving out of residence.

1:44 p.m., 100 block East Main Avenue, Frazee, multiple bad checks written to a business.

1:59 p.m., near Maple Ridge Road and Sugar Island Road, Audubon, roadside ditch and trees on fire. Extinguished by members of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

2:43 p.m., near County Road 17, Detroit Lakes, an all-terrain vehicle is speeding on the roadway.

3:44 p.m., 100 block South Lake Street, Frazee, hit and run involving two vehicles. One vehicle was parked.

3:45 p.m., 200 block Uran Street, Ogema, tire slashed.

5:05 p.m., near County Road 26 and 280th Avenue, Detroit Lakes, syringes found in a roadside ditch.

8:36 p.m., 58000 block Highway 34, Park Rapids, flames coming out of the roof of the Green Valley Bean Company building. No injuries were reported.

9:08 p.m., 500 block Balsam Avenue, Frazee, Playstation 4 stolen.
