Motorcyclist Collides With Police Car With Lights On, Seriously Injured In Woodbury: Nysp

A motorcyclist was seriously injured Wednesday evening, April 9, after crashing into a police vehicle on Route 6 in Orange County, authorities said.

The crash happened at around 6:37 p.m. on Wednesday, when troopers responded to reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a marked police SUV on Route 6 in the village of Woodbury, New York State Police announced on Thursday, April 10. 

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2024 Dodge Durango operated by a Town of Woodbury Police Officer was driving eastbound in the passing lane when the officer activated emergency lights to perform a U-turn. 

As the officer was turning into the westbound lanes, a 2021 BMW motorcycle, also traveling eastbound, struck the police vehicle on the rear driver’s side tire. The 20-year-old motorcyclist from Highland Mills, whose name was not made public, was ejected and sustained serious injuries, police said. 

He was transported to Westchester Medical Center for treatment. The officer was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
