Residents hear 'loud bang' as car ploughs into side of National Tyres garage

Residents in Tameside described hearing a 'loud bang' as a car ploughed into a garage this evening (April 26).

Emergency services were called to the junction of King Street and Wharf Street, in Dukinfield, shortly after 5,.30pm. The busy road was forced to close while personnel from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended to the vehicle.


An eyewitness said a car had smashed into the National Tyres building on the corner of the two streets.


Locals reported hearing a 'loud bang' before the crash which happened at around 5:45pm.

A huge hole could be seen in the wall of the building.

Police, paramedics and fire crews all attended with the junction being cordoned off.

All three emergency services responded

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have confirmed that, thankfully, no one was injured. Firefighters helped make the scene safe.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 5.45pm today (Saturday 26 April), fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Wharf Street in Dukinfield.


“One fire engine from Stalybridge Community Fire Station alongside the Technical Rescue Unit from Ashton quickly attended the incident, which involved one car crashing into the wall of a garage.

Thankfully no one was injured

“Firefighters helped make the vehicle and area safe before handing the scene over to Greater Manchester Police.


“Firefighters were in attendance for approximately seventy minutes.”
