STOCKTON — The Legends of Kearney Bowl will debut at the Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday, as the Stockton Late Model class makes its second stop on the 2025 calendar.
Legends of Kearney Bowl is dedicated to preserving the memory of Kearney Bowl Speedway. It was located in Fresno, hosting USAC National Midget and NASCAR Supermodified events.
Now, the series travels across California, making stops at various dirt and pavement facilities. Drivers run vintage race cars that have been restored to reflect the sport in the 1960s and 1970s.
Last season, Grass Valley native CJ Stubbles piloted a striking yellow and blue No. 100 car. It was the same car that the Manteca Missile, Johnny Brazil, drove to 100 feature wins at Stockton.
Stubbles wheeled his historic racing machine across the finish line in first place for the exhibition feature. He defeated Fresno’s Bob Hutton and Discovery Bay driver Rick Brophy.
As for the Stockton Late Models, former two-time track champion Sammy Solari of Escalon is the most recent winner. He recovered from an early race spin and prolonged door-to-door battle with Stockton’s Gary Shafer Jr. to take home the trophy in the March season-opening race and holds a three-point lead over Ty Carlson of Manteca.
By virtue of their finishes in the season opener, Lincoln's Daniel Devore and Stockton’s own Roy Luft are top-five in the points standings. Their start has both drivers poised for a strong season.
In the Pure Stock division, Donny Darter of Valley Springs holds the top spot in series points. Darter beat a driver in his second Pure Stock season, 15-year-old Mason Beghtel of Stockton.
Also, NCMA Sprint Cars will roll into Stockton for the second week in a row. On May 3, Napa native David Goodwill bested Dan Gonderman of Antioch and Ceres driver Tyler Amador.
Last but not least, Fast Kar Solutions Mini Modifieds are set for a full-slate of action. Patrick Geiger, 2022 Madera Speedway MST champion, is the points leader after his opening night win.
Pit gates open for drivers and crew members at 3 p.m. while admission gates open at 5 p.m. Opening ceremonies will start at 6 p.m. with the main events to follow.
Adult tickets for the season opener can be purchased for $20 at the front gate. Ages 11-15, seniors and military members with a valid ID can get tickets for $15.
The Stockton 99 Speedway is now offering a $55 Family 4 Pack. This package covers the price of admission of two adults and two Jr. tickets.
Children under the age of 10 and parking at all Stockton 99 Speedway events are free. Check out the Stockton99.com website for the full schedule and more information.
