THE PREDICTOR COMING UP. OKAY. THANKS. CHRISTINE. CABLE MEDIAN BARRIERS BEING CREDITED WITH PREVENTING TRAGEDY AFTER A DUMP TRUCK LOST CONTROL ON I-81 IN THE CARLISLE AREA, ALMOST HITTING AN AMBULANCE WITH A PATIENT AND MEDICS ON BOARD. WE HAVE SOME VIDEO TAKEN FROM THE DASH CAM OF THE AMBULANCE. YOU CAN SEE THAT CRASH RIGHT THERE. IT’S A BLOWN TIRE CAUSING THE DUMP TRUCK TO SWERVE AND WENT INTO THE TOWARD THE NORTHBOUND LANES AND THEN CROSSED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. BUT THAT TRUCK YOU SEE HIT THE CABLE BARRIER AND THAT FORCED IT BACK INTO ITS LANE. IT DIDN’T CROSS OVER INTO THE OTHER LANE. THE ASSISTANT CHIEF OF CUMBERLAND GOODWILL EMS SAYS NO ONE WAS HURT IN THAT CRASH, AND HE CREDITS THOSE BARRIERS FOR SAVING LIVES. IF THAT BARRIER WASN’T THERE, WE’D BE TALKING ABOUT A REALLY SERIOUS CRASH. AND NORMALLY THOSE INCLUDE FATALITIES AND THAT POTENTIALLY FIRST RESPONDERS DIDN’T GO HOME. SO WE’RE VERY GRATEFUL THAT THE BARRIERS DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO. WE’VE SEEN AREAS THAT DON’T HAVE BARRIERS UP TOWARDS NEW KINGSTON AND SILVER SPRING. THAT’S WHERE THESE SERIOUS CRASHES ARE HAPPENING. SO WE JUST WANT TO ECHO A CALL THAT THEY DID THE JOB HERE. THEY’VE DONE IT IN CARLISLE. LET’S PUT THEM ALL THROUGHOUT 81 AND MAKE 81 A SAFE ROAD. HE SAYS PENNDOT INSTALLED THOSE BARRIERS NEARLY A DECADE AGO, AND THEY HAVE SEEN A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN CROSSOVER CRASHES WHERE THEY ARE. BUT AS HE MENTIONED, NEAR MILE MARKER 49, 50 AND 52, THAT’S NEAR THE MECHANICSBURG EXIT. THERE ARE NO BARR

He said since then, he's noticed a significant decline in deadly crashes in the area. "We've seen areas that don't have the barriers, up toward New Kingston and Silver Spring, that's where these serious crashes are happening. So, we just want to echo a call that they did the job here.
