COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - 11 News is learning more details about a dangerous trend in Colorado Springs, illegal car meet ups. According to Colorado Springs Police, some of these events in recent weeks have turned violent. On Sunday night, one person was taken to the hospital after officers said they were assaulted at a car meet in Memorial Park.

“It’s amazing how inconsiderate people can be when they’re just having fun. They’re having fun I get it, but you have to realize that your actions can seriously impact others,” said Lieutenant Eric Fredrickson with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The park is just one of the locations police said they are noticing more of these meet ups happen. There are tire marks visible on the pavement in one of the parking lots.

“When they start damaging property or when they’re smoking in the park, that is illegal. Drinking in the park is illegal. Doing donuts is all illegal,” added Fredrickson.

Police ask if you notice these types of meet ups become dangerous and illegal, call CSPD at (719) 444-7000. Do not try to interfere with drivers.
