Only two weeks after competing in front of a national television audience, the zMAX CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour heads into the Commonwealth of Virginia for the first time this season with a visit to Langley Speedway.

Nestled in Hampton alongside Langley Air Force Base, the historic short track is a cornerstone of Virginia’s short track culture. Along with being the middle leg of the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown, Langley has also hosted events for the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, among others.

Langley’s sixth CARS LMSC Tour event featured one of the most exciting finishes in the series’ decade-long history. The closing laps saw Connor Hall, Brent Crews and Carson Kvapil battle valiantly for the victory, with Hall securing the hometown checkered flag in a three-wide photo finish.

With the thrills from last year’s ending still fresh in the minds of drivers and fans, the LMSC Tour is set to make its return to Langley on Saturday evening. With Landen Lewis solidifying his points lead at North Wilkesboro Speedway, the rest of the title contenders will need a strong weekend to halt his momentum.

Connor Hall Seeking Third Consecutive CARS Tour Langley Win

Any occasion where Connor Hall gets to celebrate an accomplishment at his home track of Langley is one he always cherishes.

Being able to outlast both Brent Crews and Carson Kvapil in last year’s three-wide photo finish was special for Hall in numerous regards. Now possessing two consecutive Langley CARS LMSC Tour victories with two different teams, Hall is ready to chase another checkered flag at the track on Saturday, this time with JR Motorsports.

“It’s cool to win the same event back-to-back,” Hall said. “I say all the time that any chance you get to win a CARS Tour race is one worth noting and it’s cool to have success in front of the hometown crowd.”

The accomplishments Hall has amassed at Langley during his career include a track championship in 2023 along with a victory in the prestigious Hampton Heat back in 2019. Hall’s experience from logging so many laps in Langley’s weekly division is why he always feels confident every time the CARS Tour visits the facility.

A victory on Saturday would provide Hall a significant boost as he heads into a busy stretch of summer events for the LMSC Tour. Despite grabbing two victories with JR Motorsports in the first three events, three straight finishes of tenth or worse caused Hall to lose control of his points lead to Landen Lewis, who has now won the last two events.

Hall knows he and JR Motorsports are capable of dominating races on a weekly basis, all they need is for luck to fall in their favor. Saturday’s Visit Hampton Virginia 125 at Langley is a perfect opportunity for Hall to establish the efficiency that could enable him to join Kvapil and Josh Berry as a JR Motorsports LMSC Tour champion at the end of the season.

“All we can do is focus on ourselves and what it takes to win races,” Hall said. “The No. 88 JR Motorsports team is really hungry after we got robbed of really good runs the last two races between Ace [Speedway] and [North] Wilkesboro [Speedway]. We’re ready to get that [bad] luck off our shoulders and turn it around at Langley with a win.”

Jared Fryar In Search of First Multi-Win Season

The most recent CARS LMSC Tour appearance for Jared Fryar saw him lead the final 62 laps at Orange County Speedway to earn his fifth career victory.

Saturday’s Visit Hampton Virginia 125 at Langley Speedway presents Fryar with an opportunity to earn two victories in a season for the first time in his career. Fryar possesses a victory in Langley’s Hampton Heat but knows a shorter distance to work with this weekend will require a more distinct approach.

“I’m feeling good,” Fryar said. “At the same time, I always worry about running good when things are a lot different with tires and track conditions. It’s going to be a challenge like always, so we have to make sure we’re prepared and can handle whatever is thrown at us.”

Despite now being a part-time driver, Fryar still displays the same consistency that enabled him to win the LMSC Tour championship back in 2020. He credits his recent strong performances to Kendall Sellers, who keeps Fryar up to date with changes occurring in the series and how to approach them.

Fryar hopes the knowledge obtained from Sellers and his two other LMSC Tour starts in 2025 translates into another memorable weekend at Langley. With how technical Langley is compared to other tracks in the southeast, Fryar believes obtaining solid track position in qualifying will be important to contending for a win.

The Hampton Heat victory in 2022 remains a crowning achievement in Fryar’s career alongside his LMSC Tour title. Obtaining victories on the CARS Tour platform has always been arduous for Fryar due to the overall competitive depth, which is why he would be elated to earn two in one calendar year.

“To get one win in a year where I’m only running six or seven CARS Tour races is a big deal I feel like,” Fryar said. “You only get six chances to win, so you have to make them count when you get the opportunity. Getting two in a season would be really cool.”

Local Hero Matt Waltz Looks to Upstage CARS Tour Regulars

Matt Waltz had one of the best vantage points of last year’s three-wide photo finish at Langley Speedway, scoring a career-best CARS LMSC Tour showing of fourth.

The 2017 Langley track champion only gets a handful of chances each year to showcase his capabilities against large Late Model Stock fields. Emboldened by his top five from the CARS Tour’s most recent visit to Langley, Waltz believes he can once again be competitive when the green flag waves for Saturday’s Visit Hampton Virginia 125.

“Last year, that was the first race for us in this car, so I felt pretty good about it,” Waltz said. “It’s always exciting to have a solid finish against the CARS Tour group. They race so many different race tracks and that enables them to learn a lot about their cars, so you know those guys will always be good.”

With how flat Langley is compared to other short tracks in Virginia, Waltz emphasized the importance of corner exit. Langley’s unique layout also requires drivers to constantly turn, so generating enough momentum by perfectly approaching the corners is crucial to gaining track position.

Efficiency becomes more imperative for Waltz whenever the CARS Tour descends upon Langley. The presence of larger teams like JR Motorsports, Kevin Harvick Inc., Lee Pulliam Performance and others only motivates Waltz to ensure his car has everything needed to compete inside the top five.

Across his intermittent LMSC Tour appearances over the past 10 years, Waltz believes he has never been closer to a victory than right now. Waltz expects challenges with holding his own against the CARS Tour regulars but hopes all the meticulous work exerted translates into a victory in front of the vibrant Langley crowd.

“[A win] would be awesome,” Waltz said. “Now that we’ve been able to spend more time on [the car] and raced it a few more races, along with coming off a pair of wins at Langley, I feel a lot better about our chances this weekend. We are definitely leaps and bounds better than last year, but we’ll have to get the weekend going and see how we shake out.”
