How to stay safe during a tire blowout

How to stay safe during a tire blowout
MCDONOUGH WENT TO THE EXPERTS TO HELP KEEP YOU SAFE. TRIPLE A SAYS 40,000 AMERICANS DIE IN TRAFFIC CRASHES EVERY YEAR. I SPOKE WITH MARK JENKINS AT TRIPLE A, AND HE SAYS THERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT CAN LEAD TO A TIRE BLOWOUT, LIKE WHAT OCCURRED IN BREVARD COUNTY’S DEADLY CRASH ON MONDAY. UNDER-INFLATION OVERLOADING THE VEHICLE, UNEVEN TREAD WEAR, ROAD HAZARDS AND HIGH SPEEDS AND HOT WEATHER CAN ALL LEAD TO A TIRE BLOWOUT. IF YOU EXPERIENCE A TIRE BLOWOUT, JENKINS SAYS, TRY AND FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS. IF YOU EXPERIENCE TIRE BLOWOUT, YOU WANT TO REMAIN CALM. I THINK THAT MANY PEOPLE, THE FIRST THING THEY’RE GOING TO WANT TO DO IS JUST SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES. DON’T DO THAT. YOU COULD LOSE CONTROL. YOUR CAR COULD SWERVE UNPREDICTABLY, OR IT COULD EVEN FLIP OVER. SO INSTEAD, YOU WANT TO SLOWLY LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR, GRIP THE STEERING WHEEL VERY, VERY TIGHT WITH BOTH HANDS. KEEP IN MIND YOU’VE ONLY GOT THREE WHEELS HERE, SO IT MIGHT BE TOUGH TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. SO REALLY GRIP THE STEERING WHEEL, MAINTAIN CONTROL AS YOU CAREFULLY STEER TOWARD A SAFE PLACE AWAY FROM TRAFFIC. THIS WEEK, TRIPLE A LAUNCHED A NEW SAFETY CAMPAIGN AS MORE DRIVERS WILL HIT THE ROAD FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS. THE GOAL IS TO REMIND DRIVERS TO WEAR THEIR SEATBELTS, GO THE SPEED LIMIT, DO NOT DRIVE IMPAIRED AND AVO
