ARDMORE, Oklahoma (KXII) - The Michelin plant in Ardmore recently announced that the factory’s tire production will cease by early October. This decision has resulted in nearly 500 plant workers losing their jobs.

While the tire production unit will soon close, this does not mark the end of the factory. The business’s rubber mixing operations department will remain open with about 200 workers.

As for the workers who lost their job, a task force established by the Ardmore Development Authority (ADA) has been actively helping to ease the transition.

Andrea Anderson, the Senior Vice President of Economic Development for ADA, explained they are helping by funding expansions for local businesses.

“Business expansion, project expansions here in Ardmore for smaller companies, anything that’s going to be adding a head count, adding jobs,” Anderson said.

As for the future of the warehouse, the planning is already in session.

“It is for sale,” Anderson said. “We are working closely with their brokerage team that they gotten in place from Colliers, on projects, next owner/occupier, what that looks like.”

The task force is currently working on a new strategic economic plan for Ardmore, set to be announced July 1.
