DPS warns of growing vehicle theft trend in Webb County
WEBB COUNTY, Tex. (KGNS) - The Texas Department of Public Safety is highlighting a recent case to warn about a rising trend of stolen cars in Webb County.
On Friday morning, June 13, troopers engaged in a chase at around 4 a.m. involving a truck that had been reported stolen from San Antonio.
DPS reports a rise in stolen vehicles, especially targeting brands like GMC, Dodge Challengers and Chrysler 300s.
The agency is warning of an increasing number of fraud cases in online marketplaces. They remind drivers that if a deal seems too good to be true, it likely is.
According to Sgt. Erick Estrada with DPS, “Our message to the public is not to fall victim to these fraudulent posts. Why? Because these trucks that are worth more than $50K, $60K and are being sold for $15K to $20K. Always check with your local agencies to see if these vehicles are stolen.”
DPS says that in this particular case, the driver was arrested after a trooper used a tire deflation device near the 9-mile marker.
The pickup truck reportedly lost control, struck a post and the suspect was ultimately taken into custody after a foot chase.
