Drift Appalachia in Powell County brings travelers to EKY
POWELL CO., Ky. (WYMT) - The Drift Appalachia motorsport event began in Powell County Friday.
Part of Kentucky 15 in was shut down as professional drift drivers traveled from 37 states and 2 countries to take place in the event.
Professionals say this event is unlike others they have participated in, as it allows drivers to drift their way through the Appalachian mountains.
“This is unlike any other event. It is very much a grass roots feel for me and it’s like coming home,” said Matt Field, a professional drift driver out of California. “I have been fortunate enough that I have been able to travel around the world. Drifting has literally taken me around the world. China, Australia, Japan, Europe, and all throughout the United States.”
Field said he learned how to drift on a mountain road.
“I grew up driving on the mountain, so to be able to come here with this brand new car is a full circle moment.”
Drift Appalachia is partnered with BC Racing, Link Engine Management, Kenda Tires and Backroads of Appalachia to host the event.
