UK drivers urged to fill up their tanks this weekend before big change

Experts warn households should make the most of cheaper petrol and diesel prices

Drivers are being warned petrol prices are set to rise over the coming days amid the conflict between Israel and Iran.

It's set to have an impact back home following an initial 10% rise in oil prices, before falling back to 7%.


Households are being urged to consider filling up their tanks over the weekend to make the most of cheaper prices that have been seen on forecourts in recent weeks.

Motoring experts warned to expect increases to petrol and diesel prices.


Drivers have been able to enjoy relatively low prices of around 132p a litre over recent months but prices are expected to rise by a few pence, in a blow for motorists.

Luke Bosdet, spokesperson for the AA, told the Sun : "Bottom line, the falls in the average pump price of petrol that took it down from 139.8p a litre in February to 132p this week will come to an end."

He added: "Inevitably, conflict in the Middle East forces up the price of oil and threatens higher pump prices in the UK."

It typically takes around two weeks for changes in wholesale fuel costs to be reflected at the pump, according to the RAC.

It means people will likely start to notice price increases, and may want to grab cheaper fuel while they still can.

People can find cheapest petrol stations near them by using websites like petrolprices.com.

Rhydian Jones, from Confused.com, said: "Simple changes to your driving habits can help reduce fuel consumption and cut down how often you need to fill up.

"These include removing unnecessary weight from your car, keeping tyres properly inflated, driving gently without overusing the accelerator, keeping windows closed, and avoiding idling whenever possible."
