The CARS Tour is gearing up for a rare midweek show on Wednesday, July 2 at Sophia, North Carolina’s Caraway Speedway, and it’ll be a double-header between the Late Model Stock Cars and the Pro Late Models for the first time in more than a month.

Nearly 40 cars are on the entry lists across both divisions, so let’s spotlight who is on the list and update the points standings as well.

We’ll start off with our points leader, Connor Hall, who took over the points lead with a runner-up finish at Dominion Raceway a couple weeks ago. Hall now leads the points over Landen Lewis by six points. Hall was in contention for the victory in this race one year ago, but he came up just short after a thrilling battle with eventual winner Brent Crews.

As we mentioned, Lewis is now second in points, six back of Hall, following a rare off night for Lewis at Dominion. Lewis finished tenth after struggling to get into the top five late in the race. After Lewis finally got to the top five, he got bounced around a bit in the closing laps and dropped back to tenth where he ultimately finished. Lewis did not run this race last year, but his Kevin Harvick Inc. team went to victory lane with Brent Crews behind the wheel.

Third in points is Fulford, Texas’ Kade Brown, who is now 26 points back of Hall after Dominion. Brown was caught up in a crash on the very first lap of the race that knocked out the toe on his R & S Race Cars No. 4 machine. It was an uphill battle for Brown for the rest of the 125-lap race. He managed to get back to finish 15th, salvaging what he could from a bad night. Brown finished 25th at Caraway last summer after falling out of the race early with mechanical issues.

Mini Tyrrell made a big gain in the points standings after winning at Dominion with a max-points night. Tyrrell won the pole, led a lap, led the most laps (he actually led every lap), and won the race. He’s now 35 points back of Hall entering Wednesday’s race at Caraway. Tyrrell was caught up in a crash just past the halfway point in last year’s race at Caraway and finished 22nd as a result.

Landon Huffman rounds out the top five in the points standings entering Caraway, 38 points back of Hall. Huffman’s race came to a premature end at Dominion with just a few laps remaining thanks to a flat tire, leaving him with a 17th-place finish after running inside the top 10 all race long.

The 2023 Bowman Gray Stadium Modified champion, Brandon Ward, will make his CARS Tour debut behind the wheel of the KP Speed Motorsports No. 12 machine. Ward has been to Caraway’s frontstretch victory lane twice without fenders on his car in SMART Modified Tour competition in the last few years.

Ward isn’t the only driver in the Late Model Stock Car field who has been to Caraway’s victory lane in a Modified. Carson Loftin, who sits 11th in points in his rookie season on the CARS Tour, scored a SMART Modified Tour victory at Caraway one year ago.

The entire entry lists for both the Late Model Stock Cars and the Pro Late Models can be found below.

Wednesday’s doubleheader for the CARS Tour will be broadcast live on FloRacing, the broadcasting home for the zMAX CARS Tour. Fans can subscribe to FloRacing by clicking here.
