A map showing the exact route and timings of the Red Arrows flightpath has been created ahead of the opening race of the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday, as the race celebrates its 75th anniversary at the venue where the first world championship round was staged. Around 150,000 people are expected to attend the event, where eyes will be on British motor racer Lando Norris in hopes he will be able to secure a maiden home victory.

But besides the adrenaline of the races, viewers will be holding out for a glimpse of another iconic sight. The Red Arrows will perform their traditional flypast on day one of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix on Sunday, July 6, making their iconic tri-colour flypast above the race course in Towcester to herald the start of the games.

This year, observers can pinpoint the exact moment the flypast will take place thanks to a maps showing the aircrafts' movements as it leaves Exeter in Devon at 2.17pm, flying across the Cotswolds and heading towards the Midlands before launching the flypast over Silverstone at 2.46pm. The event will be broadcast live on Channel 4.

The Red Arrows were founded in 1964, when the Royal Air Force combined its display teams into one elite unit, whose members have often served in operational units, such as fast-jets, helicopters or intelligence-gathering aircraft, in war zones such as Afghanistan and Libya, or part of the Quick Reaction Alert in the UK and Falkland Islands.

The RAF states: "Displays by the Red Arrows are one of the ways the UK strengthens its relationships abroad, benefitting defence and prosperity. The team provides the UK, as the Royal Air Force does, with a great ability and option to promote and support the country’s interests – diplomatically, industrially and militarily."

Lando Norris has called on the Silverstone crowd not to cast world championship rival Oscar Piastri as a villain at Sunday’s British Grand Prix. Norris will head into his home race off the back of a morale-boosting victory in Austria which took him to within 15 points of McLaren team-mate Piastri in the title race.

Norris and Piastri went toe-to-toe at Spielberg’s Red Bull Ring and, such is their advantage over their competitors, the McLaren drivers will again be expected to slug it out for victory in front of 150,000 spectators. The fans at Silverstone are expected to be largely on Norris’ side, with the 25-year-old selling out his own 10,000-capacity area at Stowe – renamed the Landostand which overlooks Stowe corner – for the first time.

Norris bounced back from his collision with Piastri at the Canadian Grand Prix by delivering an impressive display in Austria, landing an emphatic pole position before holding off his team-mate to take his third win of the year. The British driver has never triumphed in consecutive races. However, he will be desperate to rectify that statistic by securing a maiden home victory.

The Red Arrows will make their flypast at Silverstone at 2.46pm on Sunday, July 6, to be broadcast live on Channel 4.
