Ingrid Segura Breaks Records, Murillo Bags Gold
Two of Bahrain’s brightest young athletes, Ingrid Vanesa Segura Grueso and Jhon Murillo, turned heads this week with spectacular performances at the 2025 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, bringing home a stack of medals and setting new records along the way.
Golden Hat Trick for Ingrid Segura
Ingrid was in unstoppable form in the junior women’s 69kg division, winning three gold medals in snatch, clean and jerk, and total — and breaking two junior Asian records in the process. She lifted 104kg in the snatch and an incredible 134kg in the clean and jerk, bringing her total to 238kg, a number that set a new bar for the region.
She dominated the field from start to finish, staying well ahead of her closest rivals from Thailand and Kazakhstan. Bahrain Weightlifting Federation president Eshaq Ebrahim Eshaq was on hand to award the medals and couldn’t hide his pride. “Ingrid showed the world what our athletes can do,” he said. “This is a proud moment for Bahrain.”
Murillo Makes His Mark
Not to be outdone, Jhon Murillo also had a standout showing in the youth men’s 94kg category. He opened strong with a 154kg snatch to win gold and followed it up with 180kg in the clean and jerk to claim silver, just missing out on the top spot by a few kilos. But his combined total of 334kg earned him another gold medal, and he added two junior bronzes for good measure.
Fierce Competition, Cool Heads
Murillo battled tough competition from lifters representing India, South Korea, and Uzbekistan, but kept his cool throughout. His effort was a clear sign that he’s one of the top young lifters in the region and still improving.
Promising Future for Bahrain
Bahrain’s team, which also includes lifter Adrian Bonilla, continues to impress in Kazakhstan. With performances like these, it’s clear Bahrain’s weightlifting future is in very strong hands.
