Dauphin RCMP say they blew the tires on a fleeing vehicle that had been travelling at “a high rate of speed” late in June after the driver refused to pull over. A 20-year-old from Saskatchewan was charged with several crimes as a result.

Police say that they received reports of a vehicle moving erratically on Highway 10 on June 29. RCMP found the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, however the driver did not co-operate, according to police, and nearly caused a collision with an oncoming vehicle.

In their press release issued last month, RCMP didn’t specify the equipment they used to stop the vehicle, describing it merely as a “tire deflating device.”

When the vehicle came to a stop with a flat tire, police said, the driver refused to exit and was forcibly removed as a result. “Breath samples were obtained from the driver that exceeded the legal limit,” RCMP wrote in the news release.

A 20-year-old Yorkton, Sask. man faces charges in connection with the incident. They include flight from a peace officer, driving with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit, resisting a peace officer, careless driving and disobeying a traffic control device. At the time the press release was issued, the man remained in custody.
