
Tajikistan's Energy Sector Sees Lift From Hydroelectric Expansion
The data obtained by Trend from the country's National Statistical Agency indicates that the figure rose by 15.2 percent compared to 2024 (7.418 billion kWh).
In contrast, solar power generation declined by 33 percent, producing just 0.5 million kWh during the reporting period, down from 0.7 million kWh in January–May 2024.
Moreover, thermal power plants generated 859.4 million kWh, marking a 6.7 percent decrease compared to 921.4 million kWh in the same period of the previous year.
Overall, Tajikistan produced 9.404 billion kWh of electricity from January through May 2025. The figure rose by 12.8 percent compared to the same period in 2024, when production was 8.340 billion kWh,
The total value of production and distribution of electricity, gas, steam, and conditioned air through May 2025 in Tajikistan amounted to 4.540 billion somoni (about $469 million), down 2.6 percent from last year.
